[MR] A&S competitions

I agree with Aneira on this point - I have sat near my entries but not on
top of them (so to speak), so as to avoid the idea that I'm hovering, or am
nervous about something. The last time I did this was Fall Coronation 06.

At most of the recent events I've been to, there hasn't been much problem
with displaying works in progress or conversely, showing your techniques. I
am of this crowd. While I enjoy showing off my finished work, I always get
comments, mostly verbal, on what I'm doing off in the corner, which is
sometimes working on the next piece, or just fiddling around with stuff.

A&S comps are hard for me because there is a small pool of knowledgeable
individuals who know jewelry in any form (other than it's pretty, which we
can all do)...and I certainly can't judge the other jewelry entrants (well,
I could, but there's something fishy about it) that are in the same Tempore
Atlantia or whatever.

Judging each other's work (inside the competition, between competitors)
sounds like a nice idea, but then you run into garb folks who have no
interest in armor, and wouldn't know a bassinet from a gleave...or the armor
folks who have no interest in garb and wouldn't know a french seam from a
french fry! (just examples!) And can we really get honest opinions on what
consitutes good workmanship, research and authenticity when we are judged by
the other competitors?

Just more tuppence...

Miriel
