The latest mystery object from Dan Carlsson:

********************

Dear Viking friends,
First of all, the planning for next summer's field course is well on its way. The excavation is planned to go on for about 2 months, divided into courses from 2 to 4 weeks, and open to archaeology students as well as amateurs. So far, we have just made an agreement with a residential college for adult education to run archaeology summer courses starting in the beginning of July next summer. At the moment, we are working on a programme for international participants, and I hope to be able to post it in a month. I have a minor paper for you to read about Gotland Viking Island, and the aim of the excavation, dealing with the question of house and farm in Viking Age (http://www.arkeodok.com/Discoveryprogramme.html).

The work on my next CD (about Bone and Antler work) has got that far that I have more or less all the photos taken, and will start to put it all together. There is already a CD-R about combs, so that will not be covered by this CD, but a lot of other stuff made of bone and antler in the Viking Age. There will be some strange artifacts also, that we really don't know what they are and what they were used for. Just to give you something to figure out what it is, I have put up another strange object that I would love to hear your opinion about. I, myself, have no idea at all what it might be, so it will be fascinating to listen to your suggestions. Please have a look at (http://www.arkeodok.com/News1.html), and scroll down to item number 6.
Best regards
Dan Carlsson
