I for one, am extremely grateful to hear Dante comment on his experience and to tell me to keep my dog away from him. I completely understand his aversion to dogs and am trying to teach my daughter not to let Puck just walk up to anyone. He doesn't understand that not everyone wants a horse-sized dog in their face. and I don't want to make anyone uncomfortable. He loves being around people, but just by the fact of his size, he can be very intimidating. He kind of has to be at any event at the castle (where War of the Wings is), because he is one of the site dogs...he lives there. But please tell me, if you need for me to keep a wide bearth. I would much rather be proactive about it.
Thank you,
Kellia

After that experience, I'd say you're more than justified. And, in some
ways, pets are like kids. Most parents and/or pet owners are convinced that
their pet/child is pretty special, and is generally good. Not that they're
necessarily blind to the kid's or animal's faults or misbehavior, but, like
you said, it's a biased viewpoint. For example, my firm belief that my cat
is one of the sweetest animals ever to grace the planet might be just a tad
bit biased.
I hope that, if nothing else, this discussion on the list gives pet owners
and non-pet owners alike some insight into the "other group's" point of
view. That dog owners will remember that, though their dog might be the
sweetest ever, that doesn't do someone much good if they've had a bad
experience, especially with a similar breed. And that dog owners aren't
mind readers, so if their dog's very presence is making you uncomfortable,
the owner won't know that unless you speak up.
YIS,
Adriana Michaels
