Greetings unto the Artisans of our fair kingdom,
The Barony of Marinus is putting on their Baronial Birthday Event
September 23, 2006. We would like you to be aware of the Arts and
Sciences planned for the event.
We will be holding an Open Competition with a prize awarded to the entry
with the most popular votes. For the sake of inspiration our Birthday
theme is Heraldry. Documentation is requested but not required.
The Barony of Marinus would like to encourage all artisans to display
works of their skill at an Open Arts and Sciences Display. Please
include any documentation you may have with your display.
There is no requirement that competition and display pieces are event
theme (heraldry) oriented. The theme is mentioned for inspiration only.
There will be someone overseeing the A&S tables at all times. We will
have forms for names and contact information and we would like items
picked up by the time requested by the A&S attendant. We appreciate your
efforts in adding to the beauty and ambiance of our event!
Many different ways to display and make use of your heraldry are
possible. It's not just for shields. A class will be offered that
includes a discussion of the kinds of heraldic flags, who should and
should not wear a device and badge, and some of the less showy but very
practical uses of your device. This class will be led by Baron Donal Mac
Ruiseart, Conch Herald.
In keeping with our event theme, we are offering a workshop on
Mini-Shield Painting conducted by the Marinus Scribes’ Guild. You can
paint your device/arms on a small wooden shield to hang and display.
Guild members will be available to help you draw out your design and
show you how to handle the paints. Sturdy pre-cut shield blanks and
painting supplies will be provided for a nominal fee.
There will be one hour of children's activities during the middle of the
day revolving around our theme of Heraldry. The children will make
heraldic baldrics. The materials will be provided with no fee. There is
no age limit but children not yet potty trained must have an adult
remain with them. There will be a check-in and check-out procedure and
we would like adults to be prompt in picking up their children after the
finish of the activity.
Please come and have fun; and let your fellow artisans know what will be
happening so they may have a little time to prepare. Please encourage
everyone coming from your group to stop by the competition table and
vote for their favorite.
Thank you,
Lady Meghan Elphinstone
Arts and Sciences Champion
Barony of Marinus
