I actually like the fact that there are many events in our kingdom each weekend, because it increases the number of events that will be within a two or three hour driving range. An event in Va. or NC can still be a five or six hour drive for most in that state, and that makes it harder to go at all--especially tp day trip. Small events have their own charm, and groups need manoy for many things other than more events. I would like to point out that it is not the sole responsibility of the autocrat to make an event fun and interesting. Every one who goes can contribute to the general good time by using their talents such as dancing, music, games. contributing to a bardic circle, etc. to make an event memorable. As regarding pre-reg, it is certainly desirable and I would not speak against it; but as has alrready been pointed out, many decisions for an event must be made long before the first reservations can be expected. As an autocrat, I make no decisions on pre-reg and always assume that way more people will come than register. I make those decisions by the history of the event and a few other factors and figure that if I'm wrong, we"ll just deal with it.
