Thousand and Two Nights: The Tale Continues
October 28, 2006
Barony of Bright Hills (Hampstead, Maryland)

Scheherazade regaled the Sultan with tales of adventure and fortune for one thousand and one nights to save her life. Storytellers have retold her stories around campfires for a millennium. Join Sheik Barre, Sheika Cordelia and the entire populace of the Barony of Bright Hills as we spin the yarn for one more night.

Martial Activities
* Their Excellencies will be choosing Baronial Heavy, Rapier, Equestrian and Archery champions.

* Heavy weapons scenarios are being coordinated by Baron Heinrich Kreiner (lands_heinie at yahoo.com).

* Rapier will be run by Lord Stephen Bridewell (stephenbridewell at yahoo.com).

* Target Archery will be run by Petr Skalderbitr petercmoe at yahoo.com).
o Shoot for fun, honor, speed and accuracy. All levels of archers are encouraged to come and enjoy the day. Bring a full quiver for this tournament; shoots will often require more than size arrows!
o Their Excellencies will choose their Archery Champion from among the entrants. Several new challenges have been invented to test the mettle of even elite archers. Horsebow archers will receive honorary bonus points.
o Inspections begin at 10:00am; shooting begins promptly at 11:00am. Wear suitable clothing and footwear; you will be required to move quickly from target to target, and will be required to straddle a mannequin horse.
o The Bright Hills Youth Archery program invites all youth archers to attend, and special targets will be available. Archers under the age of fourteen must have a parent present on the range; archers under the age of ten must be accompanied by a parent at all times.
o For more information, contact Petr Skjalderbiter, (443) 604-3522, Loaner equipment may be available, if requested in advance, on an as-available basis.

* Equestrian Activities
o Bright Hills will offer a chance to TNT attendees to become Baronial Equestrian Champion in equestrian events at our upcoming TNT. Because of limited space, we are asking entrants to make ‘hobby horses’, and suggest that the head from a 25 cent Goodwill stuffed animal, and a dowel rod, will make a lovely, low-cost substitution for a real horse. Only those citizens of Bright Hills bearing a valid ‘white card’ showing that they are members of the Atlantian Cavalry may contest for the position of Equestrian Champion.
o The equestrian event will take place in three parts:
          1. Parade of entrants. All entrants will have the opportunity to show off their mounts to the panel of judges. The children attending TNT will be able to show off their horses.
          2. Head knocking. Each entrant will be able to knock off enemy heads. The combination of number of heads hit and the time taken to hit them will determine the winner.
          3. Tilting. Entrants will compete in a single elimination tournament to determine the winner.
o Overall winner is the person who has the best average in all three trials.

Arts & Science Activities
* Their Excellencies will be choosing their A&S, Brewer, and Bardic champions.

* Competitions are being organized by Lady Martelle von Charlottenburg (mrfletcher21133 at yahoo.com).

* Brewing Competition, run by Lord Michel von Schonsee (doppelganer at runbox.com).
o Open Competition - There will have prizes in the following categories: Best Beer/Ale, Best Mead/Wine, Best Cordials, Best Other (Non-Alcoholic, Vinegar, etc).
o Baronial Brewer - To enter for baronial brewer you must be a member of the Barony of Bright Hills. You must enter a minimum of two entries in two separate categories (see above for categories). The champion will be selected by Their Excellencies out of the entrants who meet the competition criteria.
o All entries must contain a recipe or ingredients list to be judged. Documentation is encouraged, but not required. The competition will be judged using the Atlantian Brewers Guild Forms (brewers.atlantia.sca.org/forms/brewercompetitionform.pdf). Any questions, please feel free to contact Lord Michel von Schonsee.
