www.fabric.com is having a sale on their brown cotton velveteen for 
$2.68/yd.  Now, I have ordered silk from them and been very pleased with 
the fabric and the shipping (here in Maryland it arrives very fast).   
For that amount of money, loaner garb or newcomer's garb could have 
something a little more fancy.  (Don't let the color brown put you off.  
Gold trim and lining look rather spiffy  with it.)   Happy sewing.
