[MR] The importance of pre-reg

I will say that in my case, at least, the reason my family did not
pre-register is that early (discount) pre-registration closed
September 3rd. I was unable to find on the website what the cost
would be for pre-registering after that date, or even if I _could_
pre-register after that date. I don't like to bother autocrats and
trolls too much - they have far too much to do in the first place. We
also don't really write checks in our household - we have online
internet banking for the bills and such - they don't let you include a
letter with those checks. I haven't the first clue where my checkbook
is anyway.

Having autocratted 2 events and my wedding within a 10 month period
(wedding last of the 3), though, I will say that
pre-registrations/RSVP's are nice for figuring out how many to cook
for, etc, but we made the conscious decision to pay whatever penalties
there were for not pre-regging. This meant dirty porta-potties on
Sunday morning, as far as we were concerned that's the price we had to
pay.

Both sides of the camp have valid points, which makes this a great
discussion and one I hope will continue to be civil.

We do apologize for that, but that shortage is directly related to the lack of pre-reservations we received compared to the number that actually walked through the door. We had 250 pre-reg and expected 3-400 and 650 showed up! While we were thrilled - we weren't quite prepared for that number.

But the example of the portajons this past weekend shows us a good reason why it is important that we assist our event staffs by pre-reserving whenever possible.
