And add to that the much usually much quicker check in when you do get to
the gate! I hand them my blue card, they look at their list, put a check
mark by my name, hand me a token and off I go! No confusion of waivers,
having to write all my information down, having to write a check out or
making change, etc.
Which of course leads to more time to play! :D

Subject: Re: [MR] Speaking of pre-reg
I try to always pre-register for the events that I want to go to. I feel
that it is a courtesy to those running the event and it allows me to ensure
that I get a camping spot or cabin spot and a feast spot, especially if I am
coming with a group. Then registrations allow me to ensure my group is going
to be able to camp together and such. If I make the choice to not
pre-register, which happens occassionally based on finances or organization
or just life, I understand that I cannot guarantee I will get the things I
want as feast might be full, site might be full, etc. I look at
pre-registration as a way to help me organize my plans. It is part of my
standard prep work for each event. If I cannot attend that event, then I can
always request a refund or give it as a donation to that group.
From the other end of the spectrum, when I have been an autocrat or a
reservationist, it is very helpful to have reservations. It has indeed
helped me make decisions about supplies and feast. While in the ideal world
every group would have run an event before or have enough money to pre
purchase and absorb a loss, many small groups just dont have that luxury. It
helps to make my work more organized to have a basic idea of your numbers
and that allows me to make my event better. Required no, but nice yes.
Finally, I do not like the idea of just emailing the reservationist. It is
our responsibility to send in reservations if we want a spot. If we are
willing to take a chance on not getting one, then that is our decision to
make and we must accept the consequences. While I certainly can understand
the need for confirmations and do try and handle those quickly when I am
taking reservations, it would be very confusing to just receive a mass
amount of emails saying that people are just coming to the event.
I think that things work the way they are. If someones wants to offer a
pre-reg discount, than go for it. If they dont, oh well. If you choose to
make a reservation, yippee. Thanks. If not, understand it is your choice and
accept what happens as a result of this choice.
My thirty cents worth....
