That makes sense. Definitely, if a group is encouraging an e-mail "RSVP,"
they need to specify that the only reservation is a paid reservation. I
think it can work if a group is very clear that an e-mail that isn't
accompanied by payment is a helpful heads-up, not a reservation. It's a
courtesy when you can't pre-reg for whatever reason and it helps the group
plan, but it doesn't reserve anything for you, whether that's a seat at
feast, cabin space, or a spot at the event itself.
I think if a group spells that out clearly, it would eliminate the confusion
Rosza mentioned as a possible problem, and would prevent reservationists
from holding spots based on an unpaid "reservation."
