[MR] Importance of pre-reg

Perhaps I am confused (it's quite possible...), but dozens of other
non-profit organizations with approximately the same organizational
structure and size as the SCA (ie one National Office and a number of
local branches, approximately 30-50K members) seem to be able to
accept Credit Card payments for events with no trouble.

The SCA, Inc has a merchant account. You can buy memberships online
using your credit card. It would seem to be (and I do this sort of
thing for a living, so I should know...) that it would be a relatively
minor change to make that account work for event registrations.

The biggest issue would be distributing the proceeds to the local
group's checking accounts, and even that shouldn't be difficult. The
Banking System is very well set up for that sort of thing. And again,
other groups seem to manage it with minimal hassle.

I fail to see why Corporate can't get their act together to do this.
The initial announcement on ACCEPS came out a *long* time ago (May 24,
2004 if the webpage timestamp is to be believed). That's just plain
lousy Member service.
