I have been fighting off and on since the early 1980's, so while I haven't
been a "hot-stick" I have seen the evolution from Freon tanks and carpet
through the Windrose/Mandrake era. I have been a heavy marshal for many
years as well.

I have NEVER fought with a hard elbow on my shield arm and often without a
vambrace, and I have never been hurt on that arm behind a shield. I have
only even been tagged on that arm on the shoulder or once on the forearm by
a freak wrap from an evil-mutant lefty. 

I also took a spear-thrust to the throat this past Pennsic and my chain
aventail caught it fine. Since I added the aventail I only use my hard
gorget for schlager.

If a part-time half-assed weekend warrior type like me can be safe without
these changes, I respectfully suggest that the more competent fighters are
in no danger!

I support this petition. Since school and work are keeping me from playing
much, I plan to write the SEM directly with my opinion. We are grown-ups
playing a sport, not kiddies who need rubber mats under our money-bars.

Let me first say I'm generally inclined to agree with your stance.  On the
other hand, I started fighting in the Midrealm, where these new Spciety-wide
rules had been kingdom law since time immemorial, and my armour has alway
met these standards.  Now if I could only fit back into it...:)

If that were the case, it would be a judgement on the state of the
marshallate in Atlantia.  Regardless of your feelings on the rules, let us
hope that this is not the case.
