I know that many people have very different ideas on this, having heard it discussed over the years. I have a couple of basic opinions, so I will throw in my two cents.
I personally think that people should wear the medallions and insignia of the awards they are given. Mainly, I think that people work hard and that award is a sign of a thank you that should be appreciated, not hidden away. Secondly, I think that if you can see who is in what order and what they are doing, it can help inspire others. Finally, I think that it helps newcomers as well, as they begin to sort out what our ranks mean and what the awards mean.
As for how to wear the awards, I agree that it can be done by persona like Baroness Oddny or it can be done in a generic SCA way. I am currently working on a way to incorporate my medallions as jewelry in order to wear them in an appropriate way for my Turkish persona. Oddny has hers on her "bling" string for her Norse persona. I have seen others add them to sideless surcoats, tunics or the hoods that many people wear. I would suggest that you look at your persona and what the event is that you are attending to help figure out the best way to display your awards.
