[MR] A suggestion - was: Re: The importance of pre-reg

I know that many people like myself do not pre-register for events
because Work/Kid/Life keeps popping up from time to time (ok, often),
and will keep us from going to a specific event.

Or we will only decide to go at the last minute because we realized that
we had the weekend free.

One idea that was passed around my Barony at one point, and that I
really like ... is the idea of an 'Email save-the-space' ... ok, bad
terminology.

But, allow people to email the troll and just say: "I plan on coming."
In fact, encourage it. Encourage preregs as well. But if you
can't/won't prereg, send an email.

Sure, some percentage of those people aren't going to show up. But take
that into account, remove say 25% of that number, and base your 'how
many people' estimates on that.

That would allow event stewards to have a much better estimate of
'potential actual turnout'.

Of course, doing this email version would NOT register you for the
feast, hold open any other types of limited slots, etc. It's just a
'yeah, I'll probably be there'

Just a thought.

We do apologize for that, but that shortage is directly related to the lack of pre-reservations we received compared to the number that actually walked through the door. We had 250 pre-reg and expected 3-400 and 650 showed up! While we were thrilled - we weren't quite prepared for that number.

But the example of the portajons this past weekend shows us a good reason why it is important that we assist our event staffs by pre-reserving whenever possible.
