Greetings from the Kingdmo Seneschal!
Thank you all for the great commentary on Unevent. I appreciate the concerns
of people who must travel a great distance to attend.
I want to let everyone know that Unevent is an incredibly important event
for officers to attend. It may even be a requirement of your officer
position, check with your Kingdom Officer if you are not sure.
Since it is very important, we do try to circle it around the kingdom on a
regular basis, so no one is driving a great distance year after year.
Just personally, I don't like the idea of two, because you have separate
discussions and separate leaders, so everyone does not get the same
information.
As others have commented, Unevent also includes a Kingdom Curia, which is
very important, as well as order meetings where many decisions are made.
So, what can we do to make traveling a distance to an event (Unevent or
others) easier on everyone?
A) see if you can carpool with other scadians attending-this is economical
and environmentally friendly. Check to see who else in your group is
attending and ride together, saves on money, wear and tear, and lonely
driving....
B) Check the flyer or with the autocrat to see if there is crash space
offered. Many local groups will try their best, especially for something
like Unevent, to give crash space to those who cannot afford a hotel. I know
that I would go broke if I had to hotel it at every event I attended in a
busier and busier schedule.
C) Put in bids for your local group-If you don' t want to drive, put in a
bid for next year! We do not get enough Kingdom bids, if you remember we had
to cancel this past University for lack of bids, and usually we have one,
maybe two to look at. If it is really important to you, ask your group to
submit a bid. You can contact the event bid deputy if you have questions on
how that process works.
I do not think that this was a bad question to raise, or not worth
discussing, however, since in the near future it is going to remain one
event at this time lets focus on what we can do to make it better!
I would love to hear from other constant travelers on their tips for
traveling without breaking the bank. We have a huge Kingdom, and I know
there are people out there with their own travel tips-now is the time to
share them!
Thank you!
Fiona MacLeod
