Greetings to the list,

Dun Carraig held our baronial birthday on Saturday (as I'm sure you all
know, as much as I've been advertising it on this list). Just under 100
people attended the event, with 70 staying for feast. It was a very
laid-back, relaxed atmosphere, and I think a good time was had by all.

Tourneys determined our new champions in armored combat, rapier, and
archery, and a thrown weapons tourney was also held, for the first time in
several years. In keeping with the theme of the event, our new baronial
champions were eached charged with a quest: the armored champion was to
seek the Holy Grail, the rapier champion was directed to find the
six-fingered man so that he could be held accountable for his crimes, and
the archery champion was to seek out Robin Hood and bring him to justice.

The children's archery course and tourney were a big hit, and sparked a
newfound interest in archery for several kids.

The weather was kind enough to cooperate, holding off the torrential
downpour until yesterday, and I don't think we could have asked for a better
day.

I wanted to give a public thank-you to the hard working event staff. (My
apologies if I forget anyone.)

Mistress Rose - for cooking a fabulous feast, dealing with the uncertainties
of pre-reg numbers, and being probably the only cook ever to serve both
roasted peacock and rat on a stick.

Baroness Mary Isabel- for pre-event planning and advertising, for teaching
the pages about courtesy, for printing up the amenities list and the dice
tourney rules, and for making sure everyone had a good time.

Mistress Kiri - for the use of your tents, for supplying three of the prizes
that were awarded in court, and for your hard work in the kitchen

Lady Serena - for spending most of the day running troll, greeting guests
with a smile, and dealing with any problems that came up. Also, thank you
for serving feast.

Syr Richard - for bringing banners to decorate the hall, helping out as a
marshal on short notice, and instructing dance

Stefan of Cambion - for instructing dance and providing dance music

Lord Michel Wolffauer - for running the games table and teaching period
games to everyone who was interested

Charlie - for helping put up and take down signs, and for a great deal of
set up help.

Lady Minna - for not only running waterbearing to fighters and marshals fed
and hydrated, but also painting the beautiful Robin Hood and Marian
decorations

Lord Alisander - for running an entertaining A&S competition, and doing
court schtick, and working on a seating chart for feast, all while doing the
"castellan" thing as well & passing out info to newcomers who wandered in.
Thanks also for your truly inspiring essay on what "the dream" means to you.

Gwenllian - for all the work and planning involved in making sure that kids
of all ages had something fun to do and that parents had a place to take
infants for a nap, feeding, or changing. I heard a lot of positive comments
on the kids' activities, and the children seemed to be having a blast.

Baron Jonathas - for your hard work as MIC & heavy marshal, for helping fine
tune the dice tourney rules.

Baroness Amalia- for taking reservations, keeping me up to date on pre-reg
numbers

Also thanks to Jonthas and Amalia for the most entertaining court I've seen
in....well, probably ever. Especially the tasks given to the new champions.

Laird Muirghen - for decorating the hall beautifully, running the youth
archery class and tournament, in addition to marshalling rapier, and
bringing Robin Hood to justice

Matthew of Summerdale - for building the fire, working in the kitchen,
serving as the "official gofer," as well as helping with a zillion details
before, during, and after, and for generally keeping the autocrat
sane....well, sane-ish

Lady Lore - for all your hard work MOLing heavy and rapier, as well as your
work painting the Robin and Marian cutouts.

Lord Mathias - for putting together a very entertaining rapier tourney,
serving high table and coordinating servers for feast, making all manner of
announcements throughout the day, and putting out signs so that attenders
could find the site

Gormr- for the ton of hard work involved in running clean-up, and for
staying until the bitter end to make sure the hall was beautiful

Lord Theron - for tons of set up and clean up help, for dealing with any
problems that arose, for making announcements, and for being an extremely
entertaining court herald.

Cece - for running a fabulous archery tournament

Evan - for making an awesome archery prize and for all your help with set up

Mistress Johanna - for all your hard work in the kitchen, and for being a
cool head and a source of helpful information and advice.

Baron Erwin - for adding a lot of ceremony to the event with the recovery of
the "Holy Grail" and the presentation of Raymond's dagger, and for your
constant hospitality.

Raymond, AJ, and Elizabeth - for all the fetching, carrying, and serving you
did throughout the event

Thanks also to the gentles who got into the spirit of things with movie
themed costumes--Henry VIII complete with his wife's bloody head, Danielle
from Ever After in a beautiful reproduction of the "masquerade" dress, two
characters from the movie "Flesh and Blood," and several Robin Hoods. Your
costumes were truly wonderful.

I also want to thank everyone who came to set up both Friday and Saturday
morning, and all those who helped clean up, especially the folks who stayed
til the bitter end at 11:20 or so.

Thank you also to everyone who worked in the kitchen, both with cooking and
with cleaning up afterwards, and to everyone who helped Rose with pre-cook.

Thanks to anyone who helped in ways I missed, or have managed to forget.

I also wanted to thank everyone who came to the event to celebrate our
birthday with us. I hope you had fun.

I can't say enough how happy I am about how this event turned out, and how
much I value the hard work of all involved. Thank you again, from the
bottom of my heart.

Yours in Service to the Dream,
Adriana
