The same is true when called into court.  If kneeling is an issue, for whatever reason, simply ask them, if you may stand.  I have yet to see a Crown who would not graciously grant the request and usually rise to stand with you.>


It occurs to me that if one comes into court or the royal presence with a walking stick, and appearing to actually use it rather than swaggering with it as I sometimes do, that would almost obviate the need to ask the indulgence. Not all will be at ease with such a use, but it is an option.
