Wow...that is an interesting question.  Of course, any fight practice I've
been to that charged a fee, there wasn't a requirement or a set amount you
were expected to pay, but a voluntary donation.  Often it was *expected,*
because the group had to pay a fee to use the site, but no one would get
kicked out if they didn't have cash that night.

And, that brings up another question.  Is a fighter practice with a
voluntary donation exempt from the NMS, since it isn't really a fee, or is
that donation considered a fee by Society?  (Because I can imagine they'd
want to avoid a situation where a fee is referred to as a "voluntary
donation," when in reality there's a set amount that everyone is expected to
pay in order to participate, and calling it "voluntary" is just intented to
skirt the NMS.)
