As many of you have already said, this is a most interesting discussion!  
Thanks to each of you for the valuable information -  I have learned a lot.

In keeping with Baroness Kisaiya's suggestion (and shameless plug), the 
Chatelaine's University classes are most informative and fun - please do 
attend if you have the chance.  Please also keep in mind, there are many who 
cannot attend University for whatever reason.  We have been teaching "mini" 
classes on various subject matter, in our area at local level meetings and 
fighter practices for the past few years.  We also try to hold Newcomer's 
Orientation the morning of events, touching on basic etiquette, etc. to ease 
some of the stress of being new in a much different world.  I'm always open to 
suggestion for any new and interesting ways to present this information.
