[MR] protocal things

    Well I am usually just a lurker but this
discussion was really interesting.  For me I started
in Markland(eons ago)not the SCA, and the differences
were very diffcult to get past at first.
    I did not know what the protcols were at all, and
had one very strange and upsetting encouter at a feast
in the Outlands.  First time at an SCA feast and
almost the last.  Did not play for many years until
someone else convinced me to give it a whirl again.
   At a 12th night got so confused asked a pointy hat
what I should even call them if I did not know which
was which - she suggested "Your Excellency" as the
safe course. Thanks to that lady!
    Then I went to University and took an SCA beginers
course- big help ...to a point.  Pictures of various
pointy hats (TRM or TRH) would have been a wonderful
help, as well as some of the what to do if things we
have hit here, instead of mostly who was more
important than who.
   I can say from my own expierences that having some
more information, a class on protocal for newbies(and
oldies that don't know!) would be great.  It
actually(to me anyway) feels a bit intimidating to
have all the pointy hats, not know what to do, not
want to
offend anyone (still remember the crazy one in the
Outlands) and still have a good time an contribute
tothe group.
