[MR] A Question of Protocol

Whether 'proper or not' ... What I was taught many many years ago was:

* If you are standing, and the Royalty pass by, bow slightly, and head
down/avert eyes.

* If you are sitting, and the Royalty processes by (note the subtlely -
with mass followers, often heralds, obviously out to 'look grand', IE,
court, or heading around Pennsic) ... stand up and bow.

* If you are sitting, and the Royalty passes by (not processes), you may
just bow 'in your seat' via a nod of the head/etc. Their Majesties do
not want to cause traffic jams when just 'walking around' because of
everyone getting up and down.

* If you walk past their Majesties, or their thrones (full or empty),
bow as you walk past.

All of this is null and void if there is no crown on their head at the
time however.

I have seen His Majesty (I think it was Cuan at the time) at a crowded
University, stop in the middle of the hallway, and remove his crown, so
that traffic flow could continue in the otherwise cramped quarters,
which had come to a halt because of bowing.

As far as Landed Baronage goes ... I had been taught that while a bow
was always welcome, that it was really only expected when processing.

So now, where is the protocol Herald and/or Laurel to correct us all?
