You may be interested to know there was a documentary
fairly recently on Times Discovery channel presenting
arguments that the black death wasn't the plague, but
instead a hemmoragic virus. Perhaps looking at the
channel's web site will yeild more references (I don't
recall if anything is being published on the virus
theory).. Part of the virus argument dealt with the
rapidity & pattern of spread which can be charted
using English parish records & which (supposedly)don't
fit for bacterial infection being spred by fleas.
Any time I need to do a literature search I start with
JSTOR, which doesn't contain medical literature but
does include history of science as well as history
journals. I don't know if an off-campus computer can
access all the search databases, but you could try
poking through the Duke library site (there's a
'search all databases' function that will even turn up
Worldcat citations)
Sorry I can't help more.
