[MR] Slate Frames

Are you looking for documentation sources, or places to buy from? (I'm
guessing documentation, but if to buy, the subject has come up on the
AtlantianEmbroiderersGuild and Blackwork yahoo groups recently)

The book "Medieval Embroiderers" has several pictures, including the one
on the cover that includes the one picture on the website someone
already responded with (http://www.advancenet.net/~jscole/medembro.html).

If you do a google search using "slate frame" you will come up with
some... including more recent as well as period. When I was trying to
work out how the one I wanted to use at Faire should be constructed I
noted that when you compare the one picture from the late 1400s to
pictures of extant frames from the late 1700s there is little
difference. Various pictures (drawn, printed, and photos of extant)
showed that the biggest difference appears to be the number of holes
across (and/or diagonally) the adustable sides. Nearly all of them show
the work laced on.

Also, some frames are simply that, a square or rectangular solid frame
of wood, not adjustable, and not *apparently* able to be easily taken
apart and re-made.

Good luck with your search! I'm still looking on and off, but I have to
wait until next year to dig into it properly again.
