Subject: Please rescue this loom!!
I've just uploaded a photograph of the warp-weighted loom that I
mentioned on this list last week. The loom is 6' tall (2 meters,
roughly) and 3' wide (1 meter, roughly). It's a replica of a Viking
loom and was used in the Viking Millenniuim exhibit that toured the
US around the year 2000. The loom currently resides in storage in
Forestville, Maryland, outside of DC. It is free--you either have to
pick it up or have it shipped. It is already crated. The crate
measures 82"x70"x35". As you can see from the photo, the loom is
beautifully made of pale-colored wood and has a warp currently on
it. It comes complete with the weights, shed sticks,
etc. Everything you see in the photo.
Please rescue this loom! They will burn it for firewood if some
weaver or historian doesn't claim it. C'mon, all you loom
enthusiasts and historic re-creation folks--someone must want this loom.
For more info, contact Deborah Wood at <Deborah_Wood at sec.senate.gov>.
If anyone on the list is in touch with the Norweigian museum in
Decorah, Iowa, please let them know about this loom. It seems to me
that they'd be a natural for it.
Ruth
