Actually, _officially_ they're not (unless there's been a recent change).
Awhile back I had settled in Pennington Gap, at the very southwest tip of
VA. I wasn't active with any local group at that time, but suddenly got a
wild hare to register my device. So I contacted an Atlantian herald (I think
was Golden Dolphin) and was told, "Nope, you're Meridien." So I contacted
the Meridies herald and was told, "Nope, you're Atlantean." So to clear up
the confusion I asked the Society Seneschal was my zip code in Atlantia , or
Meridies.
According to the Soc. Seneschal ALL of VA is in Atlantia.
Supposedly, what had happened was that since it was less than an hour's
drive to the nearest active SCA groups in Meridies, and more than 2 hrs. to
any Atlantean groups, that was where the locals went to most of the events
they attended. Recognizing this 'divided allegiance,' one of the former
Kings of Atlantia had 'ceded' the southwest tip of VA to Meridies during
court at an event. But this was never officially approved by the BoD, and
as far as Milpitas is concerned it never happened.
