it might be somewhat period in some cases in some locations in some segments
of history. but it is certainly terribly damaging to the way society views
us.

Correct; however, in period, they did believe that dragons existed.
(Depending upon your exact period and locality). Therefore talking
about dragons, and perhaps believing one sees a dragon, or not wanting
to go to the place that the dragons live (parking lot) ...
Can actually be rather period.
