[MR] weaving question...oblique plaiting and friendship bracelets

Greetings, I have a weaving/braiding question.  I've been reading a book I
bought at Pennsic which talks about Oblique Plaiting but doesn't go into any
detailed explanation of what it is.  Does anyone know any books or resources
that they could point me towards?  Btw, I was looking at those friendship
bracelets that are popular with teens...what does that technique count as
and does anyone have a name/history for it?  It seems so easy...  Thanks,
