Chaucer also held many and diverse offices.
Another thing I would point out regarding Chaucer, is
that he was not without Royal connections. He was
married to  one of the Queen's ladies, Philippa
Roet(sp), who was the sister of Catherine Roet(sp),
who was the mistress of John of Gaunt, Duke of
Lancaster, and became his third wife. (Henry the VII
is decended from their *legitimized* children, the
Beauforts.)

Don't you just love these twists in history?
