[MR] Even More Titles

Greetings unto all those with an opinion on this issue of titles and 'THL'-

I have not voiced an opinion on this front, as it is not a something
particularly important to me. I so rarely use any title, and on the rare occasion
that I do it is usually a job title (I will occasionally sign my emails as
Baronial Chronicler of Windmasters' Hill or Royal Bard of Atlantia when the
circumstances dictate, for instance, but usually only when the circumstances dictate
because I am sending messages in an official capacity). If someone tells me
tomorrow that I can put THL in front of my name, I probably still won't. It's
not an issue of lack of pride so much as lack of desire to point out to people
what I've done in the past.
Still, I see why people on both sides of the argument can feel the way they
do. A Grant of Arms IS a big deal and a great honor. I would like to offer up
this as a suggestion; If we did, as a Kingdom, begin using THL as a title
for a Grant of Arms level award, why stop there? There are many other titles
just waiting to be bandied about. Here, just off the top of my head, are a few
suggestions;

THAT-- (the Honorable AND Talented)- given to those who have received GoA
level awards for more than one reason (in this Kingdom, for instance, one who
received two of more of pearl, golden dolphin, yew bow or kraken)

THIS- - (The Honorable Incessant Servant)- given to those who are constantly
seen doing the truly thankless jobs that are necessary in the SCA. This is a
long term service award given to those who in period times might well have
been called martyrs, and yet have not quite reached pelican status or, due to
anger management or popularity issues, are not in the running to become one.

THE-(The Honorable Excellency) Given to those who have been Viscount or
Baron of more than one territory or for more than one term or who have been made
court barons and then become landed barons afterward. I like this one because
I think it would be neat to one day be called THE Dunstan. Not A Dunstan, but
THE Dunstan. Of course, I'd have to stand a chance at being made Baron one
day, but, hey, a fella can dream, right?

THWAP --(The Honorable, worthwhile and Patient) - - given to those who have
received an AoA or Grant Level award and who have remained reasonably active in
the SCA for a minimum of 15 years.

LSD-(Lord/Lady sans Direction) Given to any worthy individual who has been
active in the SCA for at least 10 years and has avoided squiring, apprenticing
or protégé-ing to anyone.

LMNOP - (Lord/lady most notable on paper)- Given to anyone who has been
published multiple times in Kingdom or Societal publications.

PNAZI - ( Person of Notable and Zealous Intent)- Given to anyone, regardless
of title or experience, who takes themselves entirely too seriously on a
regular basis. Usually bestowed by the royalty, this is a rare award in that a 2/3
majority vote of any large group of populous can also instantly bestow this
title on any individual. They can also take it away after the stick has been
removed and a few beers have been liberally applied.

SPAML- (Sir Pelican and Master Laurel)- a coveted title given only to those
rare 'Triple Peers', this one makes me green with envy of all those very rare
few who can use it. Just imagine being able to introduce yourself in court one
day as SPAML _____ (insert your name here). Oooooh, the rapture . . .

Anyway, I am quite sure that given a few glasses of wine and a pen each we
could make the list endless. Don't thank me, it's what I do.
In service,
-THAT LMNOP THWAP Dunstan LeHeryngmongere, CoGD, CoP, Royal Bard of Atlantia,
Baronial Chronicler of Windmasters' Hill.
Or, preferably,

- Dunstan.
