The bottle of wine was from Edward III. I'm fairly certain he was knighted 
by Richard II, though it is unclear if his literary ability or his service 
to the Crown (as emissary, among other things) was the primary motivation 
behind that.

Admittedly, knighting didn't get one a seat in the House of Lords, but 
that particular SCA anomaly is forty years entrenched. (Well, forty years 
come Monday.)
