Greetings,
It has come to my attention that there are several events going on the
weekend of the Black Prince`s birthday event (May 19-20) held just across
the NC border in VA. We would like to announce some of the things going on
at the Black Prince event to hopefully help people with choosing events to
go to.
Friday evening will play host to a torchlight tourney which will be in the
form of a Pas `de Armes. The heavy side of the tournaments friday night will
be run by a new marshal from Sacred Stone, his name is Thorgrim. These style
tournaments are different and not done alot in Atlantia. I will be happy to
discuss the details of the tournament to anyone privately.
Friday evening will also have revelry and of course setup. The event site is
set up for camping and hopes to have hot water and showers by may.
Saturday there will be several things going on. At the gate (our name for
troll)there will be raffle tickets available for $1.00 each. You may purchase
as many as you wish. You will also receive a ticket for door prizes to be
handed out at the end of the day. Things that are being raffled off are (but
not limited to) several swords, a mace and a reproduced period painting.
The Heavy tourney will be either a round robin, bedford points or double
elimination depending on how many heavies show up. This is a chance for the
heavy fighters to showcase their skills as tourney fighters. We hope to have
several members of the Chivalry on site and I am sure they would be willing
to give some pointers and advice out to anyone wanting to do pickups with
them after the tourney is over.
The Rapier tourney is being run by Dionello (from what I was told) so you
should contact him with questions regarding the format of the Rapier
fighting. I know from last year he ran a very successful tourney that
everyone enjoyed.
There will also be target archery this year so those with bows should come
out and have some fun.
Mounted games will be running, with several competitions and chances to
authorize. If you haven`t had a chance to see them, make sure you do as they
are fun to watch. I will post a schedule soon for the mounted games but they
hope to run their things around the others so everyone can have a chance to
participate.
If anyone wishes to step up and volunteer for children`s activities we would
welcome their help. Currently we do not have anything scheduled but I am
sure we can come up with something. The site has plenty of room and even a
playground with a covered pavillion for anything people with kids want to
do.
There are several A&S competitions going on, including novice A&S (anything
A&S someone has done for less than a year), illumination, fiber arts
(anything fabric based), best heraldic display, and possibly more.
Also being given out is a prize for most honorable fighter, which means the
fighter who showed the most spirit, attitude, and skills with fighting. This
will be two given out, one to heavy and one to rapier. The prize will be well
worth attending I believe.
Feast will once again be done by last year`s head cook, Lady Senga. Last
year people had to leave the table before eating to the point of sickness.
Her feast outdid any feast I have attended and I have seen her menu this
year and I am sure people will be impressed and lining up for space.
The feast celebration will end with a chocolate and white cake frosted in
Prince Edward`s heraldry as was done last year in honor of his life.
Saturday night will have bardic going on as well as other reveling to be
had. The site is wet but we do ask that you hide modern containers and keep
your trash collected. The site contact was very impressed with us last year
and could not wait for us to return this year so we want to make sure we
keep a good image.
Sunday morning for those staying over saturday night we will have a light
breakfast as was done last year, and is free for anyone who comes in the
feast hall for some.
The site closes officially at noon but we won`t throw anyone off site at
12:01 so long as we all think about packing out of the site around then.
The site is not difficult to find, it is within 2 miles of interstate 77. In
Wytheville there are many things available, a wal-mart, k-mart, grocery
stores, food, hotels, etc.
Should anyone have any questions on the event please do not hesitate to
contact myself or Ravenna at luther_josphus at hotmail.com
Yours In Service,
Lord Luther Josephus
