Their Excellencies of the Barony of Storvik, Baron Sean Delamare and Baroness Elizabeth Harlan, invite you to celebrate their Barony's Birthday at Patuxent River Park on October 14th-16th. In addition to the regularly scheduled activities, the Atlantian Mounted Calvary will be holding a Ribbon Tourney and other mounted games.
All gentles wishing to ride private horses or rental horses must return the registration form, with all payments due for the mounted cavalry to the Marshal of the Horse by October 11, 2005. You MUST pre-register with the Marshal of the Horse in order to ride a rental horse at this event. No one who shows up at the door without pre-registering to ride will be allowed on a rental horse. Those who bring their own horses need to pre-register as well so we have a head count and you receive all the information you need prior to the event. You may request a refund of your mounted cavalry pre-registration up until October 11 should you be unable to attend. After Oct 11 you get a refund of rental horse fees only if we can sell your ride. See below for the address to mail the form to. RESERVE EARLY there is an extremely limited number of rental horses. Due to the age of the rental horses, they will be ridden at a walk only.

Cost for the event is Site Fee: $7.00 Adult (13+), Camping add $5.00, Feast add $8.00 ($4.00 for children 6-12, under 6 free), Non-SCA Members add $3.00 to the above fees. Please note that all persons riding must be authorized riders in the Kingdom of Atlantia, or be prepared to complete the authorization process. Be prepared to show the MOL a current blue SCA membership card upon arrival or sign a waiver of liability (this is in addition to the site waiver at the troll). All persons wishing to participate in the SCA Mounted Cavalry Games, as a rider or as ground crew MUST authorize. Contact the Marshal of the Horse for information on the authorization process. Authorizations may not be available at this event. Confirmation will be forthcoming as soon as possible.
Parents of Children age 5 18: There will not be authorizations of minors at this event. Please contact the Deputy Earl Marshal of the Horse, Baroness Beatrice von Staufen at baronessbeatrice at hotmail.com or (803) 593-6512 to find out what the minor authorization process is. Children age 5-12 require special equipment and the Deputy Earl Marshal of the Horse must be present to do their authorization. This will not be possible at this event, but please contact the DEMOTH to arrange for authorization at a future event or practice.
Rider authorizations include a $5.00 fee payable to the Atlantian MOL office. DO NOT send this fee in with your registration. This fee is payable to the MOL at the event upon completion of your successful authorization. Contact the Marshal of the Horse for more information on authorizing as rider or ground crew.
As per SCA regulations, no person under the age of 5 may be on a horse at any time. Authorized riders 12 and over can ride at this event, however the legal guardian of the minor must watch the minor ride during the entire time the child is on the horse. Please make sure to help leave the site clean. Clean up after your horses.
Horses must be attended by an adult at all times when they are not secured in a stall. Portable stalls are allowed, but horses must not be left unattended. No electric wire or tape fencing. Horses may be trailer tied for this event. There is a limited amount of shade around the edge of the field.
Stallions and known kickers or biters are not allowed.
Anyone engaging in unsafe practices or using punishment deemed inappropriate will not be allowed to participate. The MOTH (Marshal of the Horse) is the final authority on what is deemed inappropriate behavior.
Please note: Due to humanitarian reasons, persons weighing over 200 lbs should state their weight on the form so we can match them up with horses that can carry larger persons. The wrangler reserves the right to refuse rental to anyone whose weight she feels would injure her horses. Please understand that this rule is for humanitarian purposes.
All riders, including those renting horses, are expected to help clean up after the horses both on the field and in the barns and help to care for the horses. Ground crew people will be needed to help pass off weapons, reset the games and water both riders and horses. When you are not riding, we ask that you help on the field as much as possible.
Please bring a section of water hose with you and mark your name on it. We have to pipe water across a large field for the horses. A large bucket would also be a good idea to bring.
If you are sharing, please remember that the other persons need to get as much time in the saddle as you do and that the horse needs to rest and get water on occasion too.
What to wear: closed toed footwear preferably with a heel, long pants, nothing dangly, or easily caught on pieces of harness. Approved riding helmets are suggested, but not required, for those 18 and over. No spurs on rental horses. Riders wishing to dress their rental horses must consult the wrangler beforehand. For those bringing a horse, if you dress your horse, please be sure it is used to the costume before you get to the event.
What to bring: Chairs and day pavilions can be set up along side the games area by the road for the comfort of the populace. Banners and other decorations for the games arena are encouraged. Bring lances and swords for the games if you have them. Rental horse riders may bring their own saddle and use it providing the wrangler agrees and it fits their horse.
The SCA Equestrian Games:
You can find information about the Saracen, Rings, Quintain, Pig-sticking, spear throwing and other games on the Atlantian Mounted Cavalry web page at http://equestrian.atlantia.sca.org/ and rules from the Society Equestrian page at http://sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/equestrian/index.html
The Ribbon Tourney:
Riders will collect ribbons from the populace by any means they desire to employ. The populace may bestow ribbons on their favorite riders. The tournament will be a double elimination tourney, time permitting. Riders will be paired up by the MOL and compete in one round of all the games. The winner of that round will take half the losers ribbons. When a rider runs out of ribbons, they are out of the tourney. The rider with the most ribbons at the end of the tourney wins the tourney. In case of a tie, the riders will compete in one round of the reeds game. Contact the MOTH for more information on the game.
Horse Owners:
Those bringing horses MUST provide present proof of negative Coggins test before their horse may be unloaded from the trailer. Those crossing state lines must also provide a health certificate from their Veterinary. You may mail photocopies of these certificates with your registration form. You must show these forms to the barn owner prior to unloading your horse at the barn.
Horse owners need to bring buckets, 1 section garden hose to run a line to the tourney field. Forks, pickers and wheel borrows are not available at the site. We suggest you bring some if possible.
Horses staying overnight MUST be housed in a stall, no trailer tying or picketing or portable pens allowed for overnight. No wire, electric fence or electric tape is allowed at this event. Trailer parking is available near the tourney field in the shade area as space allows.
The vet on-call for the site will be posted at the site and barn and announced shortly over the Internet.
Stall Fees:
Stall fees are $10.00 per night per horse (one horse per stall). There are only six stalls available, so reserve early. Make stall fees out to Flying Change Farms, Inc. Cash will also be accepted for the stall rental and is due to Judy Stromier upon your arrival at the barn. Directions to the barn will be sent upon the receipt of your reservation. You must bring your own hay and bedding or contact Judy to make arrangements with her.
RENTAL HORSE NOTE:
Fees for rental horses are $120.00 per horse and you will likely be sharing with two other riders, so your rental fee is $40.00. These are older horses and may only be ridden at a walk.
