ASSASSINATION GAME RULES
1. The game will begin at 11 a.m. (or after opening court) and end at 3:30 p.m. (to allow time for trials and executions of arrested assassins see below for details on arrest and trial.)
2. All fees collected in the course of the game will be donated to charity (1/2 to Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina relief and ½ to the Kingdom Travel Fund or The Oak).
3. All players must get a target medallion at Troll and wear it during the game unless killed. This includes innocent potential victims, those planning to place contracts, and assassins. Anyone placing a contract for assassination and all assassins are also potential victims (but not innocent. Its the price you pay for dealing with the underworld!)
4. No one under the age of 12 is a legal target, nor can they be assassins. (They can, however, participate in TARGET TAG in the childrens area, and they could also assist the Lord High Executioner and the Magistrates by reporting suspected assassins.)
5. Assassins who wish to play as part of the Guild should register with the Guild Mistress, who will issue official contracts. If they receive an offer of a private contract, they should bring the offering party to the Guild Mistress for payment of the fee and signing of the contract. (Not doing so automatically makes you a freelancer and a potential contract target for Guild Assassins.) The Guild is offering a prize for the most kills by a member.
6. Freelance assassins may apply to join the Guild (and compete for the prize for most kills) at any time. Applications accompanied with a BRIBE tot he Guild Mistress will receive a more speedy consideration, of course. Once accepted into Guild membership, the assassin must turn in the signed business card and pay a fee for each kill made under private contract (thus reimbursing the Guild for lost contract fees).
7. PLACING A CONTRACT (Please verify that your intended target is playing, ie: they have a target medallion.) No one under the age of 12 is a legal target.
a. See the guild mistress to fill out a contract and pay the recommended donation of $1, OR
b. Find a free-lance assassin. negotiate a price, and fill out a business card. (Though if the guild finds out about your deal, expect a contract on your head we have protect our business!)
8. MAKING A KILL Locations off limits for assassinations are Troll, the Royal pavilion, restrooms, the kitchen, the list fields and the archery range. Otherwise, use discretion. Wait until you are alone with your target, or until no one else is watching (unless you think you can bribe the Lord High Executioner or his magistrates!). Verify that the person you are about to murder is a player. Look for the innocent victims target medallion, or if you are attempting to assassinate someone you believe to be an assassin, request to see their hidden medallion. Add a little flavor, mime or role-play your method, with no contact beyond the lightest of touches. (NO hitting, grabbing, punching, or choking!!) If you brought them a drink, you can smile sweetly and tell them it was poisoned. If there is any doubt between you and your victim whether you would have surprised them and succeeded, (or if you each have a contract on each other), resolve it with a game of rock, paper, scissors. (YOU MAY ALSO CHOOSE TO ACCEPT A BRIBE TO TURN THE CONTRACT BACK ON THE CONTRACTING PARTY. If you poisoned them, offer them the antidote. [But if the GUILD MISTRESS finds out what you have done (and you havent shared the BRIBE with her), you should expect she would put out a contract on YOU. Changing contacts without suitable compensation) is bad for business, you know.] If you made the kill, take the victims target medallion and give them a red ribbon (to be tied around their neck) and take their medallion. Have them sign your contract or business card. Remember, official GUILD contracts should be turned in to the GUILD MISTRESS for credit.
9. Being dead removes you from the assassination game, but does not disqualify you from participation in any other part of the event. We invite the dead to haunt the trials of accused assassins (feel free to make ghostly noises if your assassin is on trial!). All the dead will be resurrected after court in time to allow them to enjoy the feast!
10. Since the list fields are off limits for assassinations, being dead on the list field will not save you from being targeted by assassins when off the field. (You were merely wounded before the assassin got to you
)
11. Magistrates may be candidates for assassination attempts, but the Lord High Executioner and the Guild Mistress are off limits. (They cant be surprised since they suspect EVERYONE.) And Beware, though the Daimyo (the Baron) may be a legal target, he has seriously SCARY bodyguards!
12. ARRESTS -- The Lord High Executioner and his deputies, the magistrates, are empowered to arrest assassins they see attempting nefarious deeds, or those accused by reputable persons. (They can choose to accept BRIBES to look the other way.) Arrested persons will be held in prison at a designated table in the hall near the Lord High Executioner. Those under arrest may be targeted for assassination (if you think you can avoid detection by the Lord High Executioner or the Magistrates, or you have successfully BRIBED them)!
13. TRIALS -- At (about) 4 p.m., the Lord High Executioner will bring to the Daimyos court for trial all arrested persons. The Lord High Executioner or the arresting magistrate will act as prosecutor and present the charges. The Daimyo will be the judge and mete out punishments, which can entail either a fine (in candy) or public execution (by the Lord High Executioner, of course). Since of course no one innocent would be arrested, no defense is needed.
14. EXECUTIONS Those sentenced by the Daimyo for execution will line up before the Lord High Execution, get a dramatic moment, then take their red ribbon of death from the Lord High Executioners axe.
15. BRIBES in case you hadnt already noticed, may be necessary for your survival. May we suggest chocolate coins, or other candy?
RULES FOR CHILDRENS TARGET TAG
Adults will be recruited as targets for the children under the age of 12. A Polaroid instant picture will be taken of each target, and given to the child with the assignment. At a designated time, each target will walk evasively though the childrens area while the child with that persons picture will attempt to tag their target with a sticker.
