Face thrusts, 

 Me too, let me on that band wagon. 

I would like to see a move away from "directed touch" as well.

A more stout shot standard for the face would actually leave less room
for tempers to flare, 

"Ok buddy, I tried to hit you nicely, but now you're in for it" 

 I also believe that a lot of the "heated" discussions on the battle
field occur not from the pain of the blow, 

(have you ever received a face thrust that hurt more than a good wrap
to the back of the leg?) 

but from the idea that your opponent is openly breaking the rules. 

"Hey! that didn't hurt, but your supposed to thrust much lighter than
that!"

  
I do believe that we should exercise caution with spear and pole-arms
though. 

 While our current armor standard makes it clear that your face should
not hit the grill if you receive a blow to the face, the blow mechanics
of a two handed thrust make it pretty easy to snap someones head back
too forcefully. 

  Still, you can hurt someone with a pole-arm blow to the side or front
of the head just as easily. 
 
We take each others physical safety in our hands every time we fight.
There is an innate responsibility to try and not injure your opponent.

 (I say injure, not hurt, we are hitting each other with sticks here) 
 
 I know most people don't hit as hard as they really could, I think we
can trust each other to exercise caution with face thrusts in the same
way.
