An A & S Competition for Treachery on the Tokaido, Oct. 29th, 2005 (A.S. XL)

The year is 1582 and the Portuguese have found Japan and all it's variety. In honor of East meeting West and all those wonders which came West via the Silk Road Routes I challenge young and old alike to enter an A & S Competition on;

Toys and Games of The Silk Road

Entries must be documentable to the time period, 1582, or earlier, of the event theme. Entries can be a child's toy, an entertainment toy, a board game, a card game, any sort of game that uses playing pieces or a sport game. In the case of the 'sport games' a model of the playing field or arena or a goodly rendering of same on paper is required. Playing pieces may also be models as we may not be able to place an entire polo team on the A & S table.

There will be two categories:
Those under the age of 13 are encouraged to have documentation but it is not required.
Age 13 and older are required to have documentation.

The toys, games and sports must be documentable to the areas covered by the routes of The Silk Road. For this competition there are two overland routes and one acceptable sea route for our Portuguese travelers. For consistency of entries please use Byzantium or Alexandria as your starting point. By land you would go through such areas as Arabia, Persia, The Black Sea, India, Mongolia, Viet Nam, Tibet and would end in China. By sea you would touch base at ports in Egypt, Ethiopia, Arabia, India, Persia and would end up in China. From there the goods would have made their way to or from Japan by other means but would have ended up somewhere on the Silk Road during the time specified.

In support of this competition the Atlantian Games Guild will be setting up a gaming area where you may learn a new game or just play an old favorite.

Competition sponsored by Chagan Khulan.
