Sure you do. Take less stuff. :) Seriously, I have a six cylindar station 
wagon that can tow 3000 pounds. Gets 25 to 32 mpg highway depending on 
elevation change. Not really much of an argument to be had in favor of your 
position. 

For those who limit there driving their SUV to when they need to. Your the 
minority not the rule. I see the majority of people in the parking garage I 
park for work driving SUVs to work. 20 gallon rations is still idiotic and 
ineffective for anyone but those who drive gas gusslers. Who really need 
more embargos placed upon them in order to stop their thoughtless use of 
precious resources. I am all in favor of incentives to those who drive 
efficent vehicles. But I think we also need to limit the use of resources by 
those who are making the most significant use of our resources. Why should 
anyone have to pay more so that the average american can drive their ford 
f150, expedition, hummer etc to work.
