Enough is enough. The SCA is simply a cross section
of our society. There are people that enjoy being an
active participant and those that like to show up. If
you are going to events with the hope someone will see
you working and say “Good Job!” then I wish you
success.

I’m sure there is more that each of us could do to
help. Just because you only see one or two people
working doesn’t mean the rest have been sitting
around. Throwing around numbers and percentages has
it’s place but not in this type of discussion. Unless
you take a survey of each person then ask them to
outline their daily activity for the event these
numbers are completely arbitrary.

It has been my experience that most people are willing
to help if you ask. If you don’t ask for help then
you probably aren’t going to get it. I have always
been amazed at how people in the SCA were so willing
to help each other. I went to an event not too long
ago where it was incredibly muddy. Most cars were
stuck in the mud. This very nice lady spent at least
two hours pulling cars out onto the road with her
truck. My point is there are always helping hands
available.

The SCA is supposed to be fun. Life is too short to
waste it by worrying what someone else is or is not
doing. I see the beginning and end of life every day.
Plus all the damage people cause in between. Trust
me on this. Just enjoy the SCA for what it is and
have fun.

If you are having issues with someone locally that is
not doing their fair share then take it up with them.
Don't paint with such a wide brush.
