--------------------------

*The Pomp*

The days grow shorter, the leaf's take on new color, the air begins to bite
back. In celebration of the years harvest and another year's passing in the
company of friends. The Barony of Nottinghill Coill invites all to share in
festivities of the seasons turning. Join us for friendship, food, ale
(*cough*wet site*cough*), and of course the opportunity to bring your
friends close to you and... and... welll. Put a serious beat down on them.
Because that's what friends are for. *grin*

*The History*

The late 16th century was a pretty interesting time for fencing in Germany.
While old blood like the Marxbruder(1480*) and Luxbruder(1512*) were
politically going fist-a-cuffs around who held the right to teach in this
princedom or that city, you also had 'newer' schools coming out of the
wings, the Federfechter had been bumping around for a while but didn't
actually get their 'props' until the early 1600's (1607*). So what happens?
The Fechtschulen, that's what happens, public displays for loot, fame,
advancement by "prize", and street cred for the school as well as for the
person. Basically these fencers would get together, in public, smack each
other around for demonstration (and money (-: ), recruit, and basically have
a good ole' time. Teaching, learning, plying their craft, occasionally
loosing a tooth to a dussack punch, good times *sigh*. Anyway, I can bore
you for hours with this crap, moving on.

(* Don't hold me to those dates, don't have my books in front of me.)

*The Point*

Their Majesties and the Cornets have made a point to make use of a single
field for the day, so that everybody can watch all of violence... ummmm
violence.. So I encourage fencing schools, houses, blood thirsty groups of
friends with pointy objects, and individuals (cause we know that they are
the real bad as*es) to come down and enjoy the day. Tourney specifics will
be dependant on time and attendance (Swiss-Five? "Second Red Rose"?). BUT
THAT'S NOT ALL! The fechtschulen were about the schools, the schools where
about teaching. So to affirm this aspect of these events, and have some fun,
we'll have a 'modified reverse bear pit'. Lots of fighting, lots of fun,
lots of learning opportunities.

P.S. The prize for this tourney is so. Incredibly. AWESOME.. You may just
have to change your slops after seeing it.

P.P.S If you are planning to MIT this event, please let me know a.s.a.p.
