For all of you that wished you could fight in a Melee at Crusades, the weather report is looking promising for Saturday and we will be having several Heavy Tourneys including a Warlord/Melee Tourney in the afternoon at Storvik's Baronial Birthday. In the off chance that it does rain all fighting will be taking indoors.

Below is a summery of the Heavy activities. Please see the Storvik Web page for more info at http://storvik.atlantia.sca.org/events/bday05.html for mor info.

For the rapier fighters, there will be a slagger battle in the morning, followed by a woods battle with multiple scenarios during the afternoon.

Bound arm tournament: Combatants are tied together and fight to the death. Sounds simple. In our recreation of this combatants must grasp a rope tied to a post with one hand while they battle their opponent with a single-handed weapon in the other. The rope is a short 12-18 inches putting a little distant between the combatants, but not too much. We will have loaner gauntlets, elbows, and assorted arm armor for those that normally leave that arm behind a shield and might not have armor for their shield side hand and arm. Each bout will be best 2 out of 3. A penalty will be assessed for letting go of the rope, one loss.

Oriental Tourney: A tournament where no shields will be allowed, and only one weapon per combatant can be over 24 inches in length. We will have on hand a small assortment of loaner daggers and short swords, 24 inches or less in length, for those choosing to fight double weapon.

Warlord tourney: When you defeat your opponent or your opponent’s army, they then become part of your army to face an opponent’s army in the next round. When we reach the final round we will ask combat archers to join the melee in the final battle where one army will be tasked to defend the caravan and the other to attack it.
