Mistress Jaelle's favorite rejoinder is "Do you know how 
much those things COST?"  Most spices were quite literally 
worth their weight in gold.  If pepper, cinnamon, cloves, 
ginger or nutmeg still cost $350-$400 an ounce, how much 
would you use?
