This is a MYTH!!!! There is a common belief that meat was hard to come by and that they had no idea of food preservation. Both of these things are false. Further, spices were very expensive. Why on earth would anyone condone use of very expensive spices to cover the taste of bad meat that could be replaced. As it turns out, one SCAdian cook tried to cover the smell of bad meat and could not find a suitable means of doing it, I do not believe they tried to eat it. As a cook myself, it is far easier to cook good than spoiled.
