is there some sort of rule for this? i had always
believed that it was left to the individual to render
his (or her) courtesies as he may. were it me, i would
do it this way. assuming a full court of at your local
event, complete with local baronage, Prince/Princess,
and King/Queen, you could be called into court by
either the Royal Herald or the Baronial Herald.

1) Royal Herald. *approach the presence and render
courtesy (bow/curtsy) to the Crowns at the limit of
the presence (the front row of chairs, usually)

*walk forward to almost hand shake distance and again
render courtesy and

*take a knee if you are able ON the kneeling pillow.
that's what it is there for. a polite point at the
knee or hip can convey to the Crowns that you are
unable to kneel. i have never heard of a Crown that
would object to a person remaining standing
respectfully due to infirmity or religious reasons.

*receive honors and or praise.

*stand when indicated, stepping back enough to give
yourself room.

*render courtesty.

*then turn and leave quickly to allow the next item on
the agenda. with a little planning, you can be gone by
the time the last vivant has sounded.

2) Baronial herald. render honors to the Crown on the
way to the Baronage. honor the Baronage. on the way
out, reverse the order and render to the Baronage and
then the Crowns.

i have seen an enormous number of different ways to
accomplish this. feel free to elaborate on this. the
basic difference between those who do it well and
those who do not is how smooth they look doing
whatever they do. try to look smooth and no one will
question whatever you do. if you look stiff and unsure
of yourself, you will look bad doing it. it may be a
good idea to use one of your local meetings to
practice this sort of thing so that you know what to
do when you get called into court.
