Its  called 'The Artifice of Beauty, {BY SALLY POINTER) a history and 
practical  guide to 
perfumes and cosmetics' and it traces the topic from early  prehistory 
to the twentieth century. I've concentrated on including as  many 
original sources as humanly possible, plus notes on experimental  
reconstructions, archaeological information, details on the  
ingredients and methods and information on modern substitutions for  
those who want to create accurate appearing cosmetics for stage of  
living history use but who cant obtain or wouldnt want to use some of  
the trickier ingredients.
