We have four spaces available in our upcoming Elizabethan Chemise
Workshop.

Elizabethan High-necked Shift 28 May 2005 10:00 - 2:00

PLEASE RSVP SOONEST. We only have 4 slots left for this workshop.

Saturday, May 28

10am - 2 pm

8604 Slate Hill Circle

Frederick MD 21704

301 631-8111

(Alessandra's house) (An hour from Baltimore, an hour from DC)

Since most people are interested in the high-necked shift we will focus
on that style. We will be constructing it using Mistress Grace Gamble's
pattern which is modeled on a man's shift (shirt) in the Victoria and
Albert Museum in London,

The following is what is needed:

4 yards of 45" wide linen; muslin or cotton broadcloth may be
substituted

(Optional) 1 yard Lightweight interfacing if you want to stiffen up the
ruff on collar and cuffs (use depends on weight of fabric. If it is
lightweight, use interfacing)

1 yards of cording (cotton or linen lucet cord is great, very sturdy) or
candle wicking (found with the candle making supplies)

Bring along any sewing "things" you may need; machine, thread, scissors,
etc. I know I like my scissors and pin cushion when I sew. (We will also
have two sewing machines and a serger available if needed, so you don't
have to haul your own machine if you don't want to).

Any questions or concerns, contact Katherine Sharpe,
noblewood at adelphia.net

LUNCH:

There will be a pot of chili and beverages (non-alcoholic) provided.
Folks have asked in the past if they could bring something...Please feel
free to do so, but please don't feel obligated.

DIRECTIONS:

FROM FREDERICK/HAGERSTOWN:

Take I-70 E, exit 56. Turn left onto 144. You'll pass the National

Guard Armory, cross over the Monocacy River. Next street on the right

is Bartonsville Road. Turn right onto Bartonsville Road. Go about the

length of a football field. You'll see the River Oaks neighborhood on

the right. Turn right. Take the second left (Slate Hill Place). This

is a very short street that ends in two cul-de-sacs. One on the left,

and one on the right. We're the second house on the left in the

cul-de-sac on the left. Feel free to park on the grass in the

 cul-de-sac.

FROM GAITHERSBURG/DC:

Directions from I-270 can get a little complex. There is a new

interchange onto I-70 E, coming down I-270. This interchange is so

New, it might not be reflected on Mapquest yet. Anyway, follow I-270

all the way to Frederick, where it ends. You will pass a mall on the

right. Just past the mall, I-270 splits. The far right line exits out

to I-70 E. Then follow the directions from above to exit 56, etc.

FROM BALTIMORE:

Take I-70 W. Get off at exit 59 onto 144. Curve to the right and merge
onto 144. Follow this through the light (Spring Ridge), then up the
hill. Note that 144 is split by a median. It merges at the top of the
hill. Once it merges, the next street at on the left is Bartonsville
Road. Turn left. Go about the length of a football field. You'll see the
River Oaks neighborhood on the right. Turn right. Take the second left
(Slate Hill Place). This is a very short street that ends in two
cul-de-sacs. One on the left, and one on the right. We're the second
house on the left in the cul-de-sac on the left. Feel free to park on
the grass in the cul-de-sac.
