[MR] A (Probably Ridiculous) Heraldic Suggestion

Lady Alexandra,

As Ponte Alto's Web Minister and maintainer of the page in question, thanks
for the compliment! These sorts of pages tend to happen when sometime in
your group's history the Web Minister was also the Herald for the group
(not me!). :) But, as His Highness said, "Heraldry is cool," so once you
have an RoA started, it's cool to keep it going. Now, I'm not creating the
device images, but folks are welcome to send existing images they have, or
work with heralds to create an electronic version to post.

To All,

I would like to point out a few things going on out there in the Known
World that may be of interest to the Roll of Arms inclined:

SCA Roll of Arms Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/SCARollsofArms/
The moderator of this group, William Castille of Lochac, has begun an RoA
for all the kingdoms and groups in the Known World:

http://heraldry.griffin-dor.org/groups/index.htm

He has also gathered together listings of RoAs that are out there, which is
how he found me:

http://www.sca.org.au/herald/LRoA/Links.php

Some kingdoms actually have RoAs up and running, and once that initial set
of arms is finished (ha!) keeping up with the Laurel LoAR results
apparently isn't too bad; assuming you have someone with artistic skill
and/or graphics program wizardry on your side. Starting from ground zero,
it's a daunting task. But with enough interest as a group project, it
could happen. :) I hear William Castille was looking for more emblazons
to do, as he'd finished the Group RoA...

Speaking of drawings of arms....black and white outline versions of
submitted Atlantian heraldry are inclued in the Atlantian letters to Laurel
and posted for all to see on Atlantia's heraldry web site:

http://herald.atlantia.sca.org/submissions/index.htm

I'm not all that good at herald-ese, but my brain can far more easily fill
in colors on an outline drawing to "see" a device than try to envision it
completely from the blazon. Very helpful!

Someone else mentioned the Blazons program. Blazons! 2000 *might* be found
here:

http://www.digibuy.com/cgi-bin/product.html?92946083159

The original home of www.blazons.com seems to be dead, so I don't know if
the program is really still available or not.

So, there is quite a bit of device heraldry out there on the web to be
found. Take a look, enjoy, be inspired, submit your own device, volunteer
to emblazon blazons....whatever!

Cassandra
