[MR] dogs at events

Good Day
I have recently acquired a puppy that i would like to
bring to some events.  It's a good idea to socialize a
puppy so they will not be afraid of new things and
learn to love peoples (not that the smooch boy needs
help there).  Are there events where pets are
welcomed?  I have heard about the coursing group- but
has anyone done anything with herding breeds for
period demos?  
Any info is appreciated. 
And hey- this breed is period!
