Greetings from Olivier de Bayonne, Poeta Atlantiae!

First of all, forgive me if you receive this message more than once. I
apologize for any unintended spam as I attempt to send out this
announcement.

    This year at Pennsic I will be sponsoring the Known Worlde Poetic
Challenge, as my predecessors have in years past. The theme for this year is
"Your Queen." That's right - I challenge poets across all lands to submit
pieces celebrating their queens! Praise Her Majesty in style!

    Requirements: entries must be in period form (pre-1600). Please limit
your pieces to 10 pages (5000 words). Fragments of larger works may be
entered, but it must be cohesive and self-sufficient.
    Documentation required but shall not exceed five (5) pages (but
additional pages for bibliographies and attachments of portions of period
poems is permissible). Submit 3 copies of the poem and 3 copies of the
documentation/attachments (without your name on them) with the registration
form (available on the Poeta website in both .doc and .pdf formats) by 11
a.m. on Tuesday 8/16 at A&S point.
    Entries which do not have the correct number of copies of poems and
documentation or fail to maintain anonymity shall be disqualified. However,
you do not need to wait until Pennsic to enter - feel free to send me your
poem and documentation electronically via the email address at the end of
this letter! Only one entry per person, please.
 Entries will be judged on:
(i) use of period imagery
(ii) use of period style and conventions
(iii) complexity of the piece
(iv) documentation
(v) entertainment value
(vi) poem's appropriateness to the theme and voice, and
(vii) overall impression.

    In the event of a tie the entry with the highest score in its
documentation will prevail. A crack team of poetry aficionados has been
assembled from across the Known World to assist with judging.
    There will be a prize for the winner of the Challenge. Please note -
this is a composition, not a performance, competition - though a
get-together, at which the winner will be announced, will occur on Tuesday
night (currently there is a get-together scheduled on Wednesday night but
other obligations force me to change it - new location forthcoming).
