a prize for this competition. Contact Lady Nem (information below) to find
out more about this competition. There will also be a cavalry activity for the
Children among the Children’s activity that involves stick ponies.
Rules to follow:
No smoking or alcohol in arena area when horses are present or in the barn
area.
Please make sure to help leave the site clean. Clean up after your horses.
Horses must be attended by an adult at all times when they are not secured
in a stall.
Stallions and known kickers or biters are not allowed.
Anyone engaging in unsafe practices or using punishment deemed inappropriate
will not be allowed to participate.
Please note: Due to humanitarian reasons, persons weighing over 200 lbs
should state their weight on the form so we can match them up with horses that
can carry larger persons. The wrangler reserves the right to refuse rental to
anyone whose weight she feels would injure her horses. Please understand that
this rule is for humanitarian purposes.
All riders, including those renting horses, are expected to help clean up
after the horses both on the field and in the barns and help to care for the
horses. Ground crew people will be needed to help pass off weapons, reset the
games and water both riders and horses. When you are not riding, we ask that
you help on the field as much as possible.
You do not have to participate in every activity. There is a checklist on
the form for the activities you wish to participate in. This will allow for
those sharing a horse to work out a schedule between them. If you are sharing,
please remember that the other persons need to get as much time in the saddle
as you do and that the horse needs to rest and get water on occasion too.
What to wear: closed toed footwear preferably with a heel, long pants,
nothing dangly, or easily caught on pieces of harness. Approved riding helmets
are suggested, but not required, for those 18 and over. No spurs on rental
horses. Riders wishing to dress their rental horses must consult the wrangler
beforehand. For those bringing a horse, if you “dress” your horse, please be
sure it is used to the costume before you get to the event.
What to bring: Chairs and day pavilions can be set up across from the games
area for the comfort of the populace. Banners and other decorations for the
games arena are encouraged. Bring lances and swords for the games if you have
them.
The SCA Equestrian Games:
You can find information about the Saracen, Rings, Quintain, Pig-sticking,
spear throwing and other games on the Atlantian Mounted Cavalry web page at
_http://equestrian.atlantia.sca.org/_ (http://equestrian.atlantia.sca.org/)
and rules from the Society Equestrian page at
_http://sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/equestrian/index.html_
(http://sca.org/officers/marshal/combat/equestrian/index.html)
Horse Owners:
Those bringing horses MUST provide present proof of negative Coggins test
before their horse may be unloaded from the trailer. Those crossing state lines
must also provide a health certificate from their Veterinary. You may mail
photocopies of these certificates with your registration form. All stalls will
be labeled prior to your arrival so that you know which stall your horses
are to be housed in. Trailer pads along the tree line with water and
electrical hookups are $20.00 per night. The middle barn also has two showers, the
only ones on-site, with hot water available for our use that we will have to
share with the fighters and other guests. Horse owners need to bring buckets,
and hooks or bungee cords to hang the buckets from the wire mesh doors of the
stalls, 1 section garden hose to run a line to the tourney fields, straw
bedding which may be ordered before and delivered. Note: any bedding other than
straw must be removed from the site upon departure, per the site rules. Forks,
pickers and wheel borrows are not available at the site, however the
Marshals will be providing one set for common use. We suggest you bring some if
possible.
Horses staying overnight MUST be housed in a stall, no trailer tying or
picketing or portable pens allowed per site rules. Horses coming for one day only
(not staying overnight) will be charged $10.00 for use of the site, but you
may trailer tie them if you supervise them the entire time they are tied to
the trailer. No wire, electric fence or electric tape or portable stalls are
allowed at this event. Trailer parking is available near the barns.
Please note: A source has been located to provide straw bedding and hay to
be shipped in. (Exact prices are being negotiated and will be sent out
separately as soon as we have them set). Please be sure to check the boxes if you
want to order straw or hay so you do not have to haul it. Include the quantity
you think you will need. You can send this information ahead of time (before
you send the packet back) to Lady Nem (see contact info below) to help her
negotiate the exact price.

There is a privately owned trail riding business at the site for those who
wish to rent a horse for an hour and go on a supervised trail ride. They also
have pony rides available. These reservations must be arranged well in
advance and are not an SCA sponsored activity. Call Fair Hill Stables at (410)
620-3883 to make arrangements. 1 hour trail rides cost $30.00 per person. They
also offer riding lessons at reasonable rates. Please reserve early, because it
is a holiday weekend, the spaces are filled quickly. Again, this is not a
sponsored SCA activity and all arrangements must be made with Fair Hill Stables
directly.
