(To which I will cheekily add Martha Stewart's advice that such
crankiness can be averted if one monitors soil moisture, applies a
balanced fertilizer biweekly, and prunes or pinches back regularly to
maintain shape; infestations of scales and mealybugs can be controlled
with horticultural oil, and powdery mildew can be controlled by
removing affected leaves and not watering from above.)
