I don't think I can remember an event in which I had more fun. I won't say
it was the smoothest event I've ever been to - we certainly had our share of
problems - but if you weren't there you missed a memory that is worth
keeping.
I want to thank the autocrat, Baron Temur, for conceiving the idea of ATM
and for seeing to its execution. I want to thank the event staff - Baron
Heinrich, for keeping the cars out from under foot; Baroness Barbara and
Ladies Yseult, Rowan, and Margit, who ran troll; Lord Seamus, head of the
Cooks Guild and all its members for a marvelous feast, the preparation of
which was trying under the best of conditions; Lord Graham, our MIC, who
learned a few things that day; Lady Martel, for coordinating and running
both the classes and the A&S, and to the teachers and artisans; and all the
Marshals who helped run the weapons discipline, but especially Lady Reyne
who, with the help of the Bright Hills archers, produced a Kingdom-worthy
contest. There were 38 archers competing! Special thanks go to M'Lady Jen,
who kept me on schedule.
Special thanks go to Baroness Beatrice and Lady Bronwyn, who brought us the
Atlantian Cavalry. These 'Horse Chix', as they call themselves, are some to
the nicest and most talented people I have had the pleasure to meet.
Duchess Simone de Barjaval, Patroness of the Atlantian Cavalry, lent her
special grace and dignity to the various Cavalry activities. Thanks go to
Mistress Isolde, the current Society Earl Marshal for Equestrian Activities,
and to THL Donwenna La Mareschale, who lent her own panache to the Cavalry
activity. Personal thanks go to Lady Nem and her daughter Mor, call Maeve,
for their Herculean efforts at getting me authorized in the Cavalry. I take
great pleasure at this time to announce that Bright Hills has a new Champion
- Lady Swieszca Kaim is Bright Hills' first Captain of Cavalry! Lady
Swieszca did an excellent job in her competition, besting Lady Nem and most
of the Atlantian Cavalry to earn the title. I also mention that my
daughter, Lady Maeve fitzRobert, authorized in the Cavalry. Further, Lord
Graham MacRobert has volunteered to become a Marshal of Cavalry. This is an
extraordinarily hard task, as he has to become a Marshal in Target Archery
and Combat Archery, as well as Thrown Weapons, but he also has to authorize
as an Advanced rider.
Court opened with her Excellency and I, accompanied by the Atlantian
Cavalry, processed into Court on horseback. I point out at this time that,
by rule, her Excellency and I are too important to ride without handlers
guiding the horse. Lady Aethelflaida, of Storvik, honored me, and Lady XXXX
honored her Excellency. We look forward to seeing the pictures of this
novelty. During Court we were very happy to recognize newcomers Rhys Cantor
and Finn 'Bob' Cantor, and to bestow Orders of Jobs on Lord Gustav and Lady
Martel. Lord Corwin received the Baronial Award of Excellency he has so
justly earned. Lady Taira no Akiyo presented me with a sleeve garter tablet
woven with the title Company of the White Horse.
